Somebody prayed for me

One thing that amazes me is the number of people who have prayed and continue to pray for me. Not the people who say “I’m praying for you” while really meaning “I wish you well,” but those who have stood in the gap and helped me in my spiritual journey.

I remember as a young boy, I would hear my mother praying for me. My mother spent every morning praying for her children, and I am so glad that my mother took the time and prayed for me. I believe many reading this can say that somebody prayed for you. It might have been your mother, or father, or brother, or sister, pastor or a friend, but somehow, somewhere somebody prayed for you.

In my first church as pastor an old saint, upon my first pastoral visit to her and her husband, told me that she had forwarded my name and family to an international intercessors group to ensure I was well protected daily, as her experience told her that young pastors needed much protection for their ministry.

And today I am here because of the mercy of God. I am here today because of the goodness of God. I am here today because of the kindness of God as he showed me that His blessings are not limited to my petitions. I am here today because somebody took the time and prayed for me.

And can I be completely honest? I notice it the most during a season when personally I’m finding it difficult to pray. There’s no struggle with sin, no major family problems to distract, no over scheduled diary squeezing out time—just old fashioned difficulty in prayer. I do pray. I love to pray. But at times it’s a real fight.

The outpouring of prayer simply amazes me. I continue to walk in the wake of these pleas with God

Many of us might have written off that son or daughter, and have stopped praying. We might have written off that loved one and have stopped praying. We might have written off our friend and stopped praying, but do not forget somebody prayed for you. I want to encourage somebody here today, do not stop praying. Pray for your son, pray for your daughter, pray for your wayward husband or wife, pray for your household, pray for your friend and do not forget that somebody prayed for you.

Let me close with this song

When my heart was so broken that I could not pray,
When love wasn’t easy to see.
Someone was there, somebody cared,
Somebody prayed for me.

Somebody went to the throne of heaven
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His holy presence
Saying what I could not say.
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the blood of Jesus
Somebody prayed for me.

When the future looked hopeless and I’d given up,
When I had lost sight of my dreams
Somebody near, dried every tear,
Somebody prayed for me.

Somebody went to the throne of heaven
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His holy presence
Saying what I could not say.
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the Blood of Jesus
Somebody prayed for me.
