Years ago, I had an experience that set the course for my journey of passion – intimacy with God. I was soaking in the presence of the Lord one day, waiting on the Lord. Suddenly the whole atmosphere in the room changed and I was filled and overshadowed by the Holy Spirit.
The Lord then spoke to me with a voice that shook me to the core. It was as if every fibre and cell of my being was shaken and awakened by His voice. What He said surprised me: “Get to Know Me More!”
This was “only the beginning” of a never ending passionate adventure to know God. It was like a light going on. Having said that, I have to admit that progress was slow initially, but in recent times there has been great acceleration towards this goal of greater intimacy with God.
Fast forward a number of years, and my journey with the Lord continues to build upon my overwhelming priority to be a man walking with God. This occurrs through a range of context.
In the context of God’s Kingdom – The Kingdom of God is my primary concern.
Matthew 6:33 exhorts us: ‘But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you’ – Matthew 6:33 NKJV. This verse reminds me of the daily importance of focusing on His priorities:
- God must come first
- Seek first His Kingdom
- Develop Godly Righteous Character
For me, His commandments, His desires, His unfailing love, His grace have to be at the centre of who I am and how I live
In the context of knowing God – Fellowship is the most important thing God wants from me.
He wants me to come to know him – to be with him – to spend time with him.
Great men made it their goal of knowing Him, their determined purpose – Abraham, Noah, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, David and Paul – These men knew Him in ways that were most uncommon, and they went on to do most uncommon things. ‘My goal is to know Him, and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his suffering, being conformed to His death’ Philippians 3:10 HCSB
Jesus set an example for us when he slowed the pace of his life to spend time with the Father. He knew the importance of quiet moments. He often went into the mountains to pray.
The more mature I become in my relationship with God, the more important this quiet time with God becomes. I look forward to being alone with him. I realise I need to listen to Him for every area of my life.
When the fervour of God captures you, it will ignite you with a great passion to walk with God and to be his friend.
My walk is can be defined to three important characteristics.
- To know God
- To know and experience His power.
- To identify with His sufferings.
I can testify that I have proved that knowing God is the heart and core of the gospel
In the context of The Secret Place – The secret place is where I develop my walking relationship with God.
The secret place is not the destination; it is only the catalyst [call to action between God and believers]. It is designed of God to establish me in an intimate friendship with Him that is walked out through the course of our everyday lives. The goal I’m after is an everyday walk of unbroken communion with my Lord and friend.
There, in the secret place, we are captivated by His love and consumed with His purpose for our lives. There, in the intimacy we will lay down our brief lives in pursuit of the greatest privilege ever offered to man – to be lovers of God. This becomes the training ground for a life that is rooted and grounded in love.
‘He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]’ – Psalm 91:1 AMP; ‘But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open’ – Matthew 6:6 AMP
In the context of Secrets of His Kingdom – When I enter this realm God unfolds the secrets of His Kingdom.
It is only as these riches stored in secret places are opened to the soul that we know of Christ. ‘The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law’ – Deuteronomy 29:29. It is bringing forward the hidden riches that reveal the divine reality of God’s Word. ‘In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden’ – Colossians 2:3 AMP. The riches are unlocked by my obedience. The anointing will release riches in secret places, with no strings attached, as the anointing is not one of control.
In the context of Spiritual Purpose – The purpose of my life is to pursue God.
This is what we were created to do. God wants me to seek and long passionately for His presence. His presence is real and tangible. It changed my life completely.
I sense that for many they are not aware of what is available to them. Our hearts are not burning for God, and we have settled for lesser things.
But now God asked me for more. The objective [a thing aimed at or sought; a goal] of seeking the Kingdom of God is Kingdom Living
Kingdom Living means that I am intentional in placing my life in God’s hands and pursuing obedience while living in the awareness of the reality, presence, power and goodness of God. This surrender and awareness, which are the bedrock of kingdom living, result in the experience of unconditional peace, joy and love, enabling me to treat all people with unreserved love and all things as belonging to God. I have certainly not attained this, though I am committed to pursuing it.
