A Passion for God’s Presence

I hunger and thirst for intimacy with God. His Holy presence is my joy and delight. David expressed it beautifully. “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.” (Psalm 27:4 AMPC) David had his priorities right. My prayer and desires that we would have the same passion for God’s presence as David did.

Intimacy with God begins with the revelation of His love for us. God has placed in our heart both the desire and ability to know Him and the depths of His love. He yearns that we would be able to understand and embrace His commitment and unfailing love for us which then produces a hunger in us to give ourselves wholly back to Him in an ongoing, intimate way.

Salvation is a free gift, but intimacy with God, fellowshipping the deeper things of His heart, are for the hungry. The cry of my heart becomes the cry of the Apostle Paul, ” My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection… “(Philippians 3:10). I begin to feel a stirring within me and a cry in my spirit that says, “there must be more!” It is in these cries that a lifelong process of drawing near to and walking with God begins.

God has restored us to life and intimacy with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We have forgiveness and eternal life through faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. Jesus gave us the key to a very special place of intimacy with God. He called it The Secret Place. He said, “When you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:6) My assignment from the Lord is to tell everyone that he is waiting for you in the secret place.

I keep hearing the words over and over “Don’t forsake the secret place”. It has been weighing so heavy on my heart lately. There has been such a stirring in my heart that the Lord is releasing a greater invitation to His people to come deeper and come higher!

This encounter burnt so deeply in me the heart of the Lord for His people to KNOW HIM. I believe that we are entering into a deeper season that is so glorious, the Lord out of His love, continues to warn us, to call us deeper, to remind us to remain in the secret place and draw us back when we wander.

Come with me to a place where few enter, where you are saturated with the presence of God, where the glory is, where you are literally baptized in His awesome power.

As long as you are in this place, you no longer feel guilty or sinful. That was taken care of in the Outer Court. You pass through the Holy Place, where your soul begins to surrender to the will of the Father.

Then, something miraculous happens. You go beyond the veil, deeper with the Father than ever before. The flesh cannot enter. The soul can no longer talk or participate. Communion begins within your spirit. God speaks to you, deep inside. His presence is so abundant that you can only listen. You no longer talk. You must be quiet. In the presence of God, words are inadequate. You have entered into a higher revelation.

Quietness is all around you, but not as a sign of lack. It is a sign of abundance. Christ Jesus is no longer the Person about whom you’ve read. He becomes real, lovely, the expressed image of God’s glory. This is where He reveals Himself.

The wealth of His presence is beyond the veil. Your spirit becomes more alive than you dreamed possible, for it responds to the Creator. The depths and heights are unsearchable.

Your life is changed forever, yet it is just beginning to change. You’ve begun to understand, in a small way, what David the Psalmist was acknowledging when he wrote, “You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man…” (Psalm 31:20).

What has become so very clear to me concerning dwelling in the Secret Place – it has to do with a passion, an unrelenting desire, a single-minded hunger for intimacy with God in His Holy presence.
