‘The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving’ Psalm 28:7 NLT.
Something amazing happens when we let go of the reigns of dependence on people and totally trust on God. I am one of those people who need to trust in God every single moment of every day. As a reminder to keep trusting God daily, I use this acronym for TRUST…. Totally Reliant Upon [my] Saviour Today
Total trust in God is not weakness. It is a place of surrender that acknowledges that we can do nothing without Him. God has shown me again and again that I am to trust Him in all situations.
Trust isn’t an easy thing to come by but it’s one of the most important parts of my relationship with God. It is something that the Lord has been teaching me, and I hope it is a blessing to you as well.
When God says, “Trust in Me” it’s not just a suggestion, it’s not so much a command as it is a plea, a promise. Trust involves both the belief that God will keep His Word and also the action of placing one’s whole life in His care. This is the step I think is missing in most Christians’ attempt to live the Christian life. It is certainly my most common mistake.
This season has allowed me to dial back a bit in my life. Instead of wanting to be at the front of the pack, I have found myself being content and comfortable at God’s pace for my life. Trusting the Lord in this new way meant walking in more reliance on the Holy Spirit who indwells us, submitting to the directions which Christ Himself would give as the Spirit guided our life. I have found that this was to be my daily experience.
Trusting God involved so many diverse experiences and scriptural truths that it was not easy to put it all together. But the important point is that I am trusting God more intentionally. Doing everyday life with God has shown me how dependent I am on God in many ways—but in one big way He continues to show me is how much I could trust Him. A BIG part of trusting God is PRAYING for what is best, regardless of what we hope He does.
- Prayer shows agreement with God.
- Prayer brings peace that passes all understanding
- Prayer is for the humble.
- Prayer is walking and talking with Jesus.
I realised that God is using this whole season to humble me and to force me into trusting Him all the more. He glorified Himself through my weakness. He allowed me to see more obviously that the strength was from Him and Him alone.
Of course the real test comes as we step out in obedience based on what we see and hear Him doing. The more frequently we risk by trusting Him to show up, the more He’ll prove himself trustworthy.
Trust is the plug connecting us to the divine power source – that place in the journey where we experience another level of grace. Being totally reliant on our heavenly Father requires laying aside all of our preconceived notions about life.
So, learning to trust in Him is a process. He doesn’t get frustrated with us in this process, but He also doesn’t want us to stand still. Our Father doesn’t demand perfection, but He greatly desires progress. He wants us to take steps of trust toward Him every day. We need to put our complete trust in God and sacrifice, knowing that God has already made the greater sacrifice for us.
Trust is like a muscle. The more we exercise it, the more that it grows and is strengthened. So how can you strengthen your trust muscle?
- Trusting God means developing an intimate relationship with Him.
- Trusting God is total obedience with the Lord. In order to trust with God, we must be obedient to the Word of God.
- Trusting God is a personal choice. If you want to walk with God, you have to walk in the highway of holiness. When you allow God to direct you, you shall not go the wrong way.
- Trusting God means walking with faith. God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. We shall pray that we shall walk in faith with God.
- Trusting God is walking in His light
Trusting in God reminds me again of what God’s Kingdom is really all about; exactly that, it’s God’s Kingdom. What a privilege it is to be part of His Kingdom.
