‘You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’ 2 Chronicles 20:17 NIV
The Battle is Won in the Secret Place
As I sat with the Lord recently, I had such an excitement and anticipation for what He would say as I felt the presence of the Lord so strongly. I asked the Lord what He wanted to say about the current season I was in, and He said, “The battle is won in the secret place. I am calling My people to prayer and time spent with Me. From there they will marvel at what I will do.”
Little did I know how real and important these words were going to become. Within a matter of days, a situation developed, and I knew immediately I was in a spiritual battle. As I was preparing myself before the Lord, I sensed a darkness begin to smother my spirit.
But there was no fear as the battle had already been won in the secret place. I felt the Lord was saying that I needed to understand the power of prayer and the importance of operating within the full power of God. This is a significant time in the Spirit and the Lord wants to give me strategies and revelation on how to move forward in Him. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James 5:16). At the time I had told my wife that I was uncomfortable with the whole situation and in particular I sensed the agenda had changed. At the same time, I wanted to ensure her of my support as she had called the meeting.
As the meeting day approached the real battle began. Bible promises started entering me spirit directing me to become silent in speech and thought. On the actual day while I was walking home from work I came under a fierce spiritual attack and right there on a main road, as cars raced past, I called upon the Lord and began claiming the precious blood of Jesus over myself and my family. I knew we were entering a major battle.
Time in the secret place leads to Breakthrough
As I sat in the meeting I was able to rest in the truth of who God is. The revelation of His affections and delight flooded my spirit, and I stood in faith and prayer on the promises of God. The battle was fierce, and the agenda and purpose had changed so we knew there would be no immediate outcome. But I also left resting in His embrace, soaking in his Glory and goodness. There had been a breakthrough into the fulfilment of His promises. As we rest in him let this be our focus.
I train in the secret place
After the experience the Lord reminded me: “I train you in the secret place to prepare you for the public place. All that I do with you when no-one is looking is what makes you strong when all are looking. And I am calling you into a time of secret preparation where I train your hands for battle and ensure that you are ‘well equipped’ for all that you will face.”
God’s people do not have to fight for victory in our own strength or wisdom. God will do the fighting on our behalf. The battle belongs to the Lord!
When we face various challenges in life, we often forget that God is in control. Yet, if we are enlisted in God’s army, the keys of victory are in His hand.
Referring to the Scripture at the top of the blog, Jehoshaphat, who generally was a good king, was besieged by enemies in 2 Chronicles 20. In verse 3, he “set his face to seek the Lord,” and God did not delay His response. God replied that Judah “will not need to fight in this battle.” They only needed to “stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf” (2 Chronicles 20:17). How powerful was that? And God routed the enemies, setting an ambush and turning them against one another (v. 22-23).
Here is an important lesson I learnt from this experience: When God performs a mighty work around us, He does not intend that we rely less on Him, but more. The victory resides with Him in each and every battle, and we must not forget that.
